MISSION STATEMENT
âFirst imagined out of Carolyn Steelâs book Hungry City and using her quote âfrom farm to forkâ, Auberge des Vergers is now a social and cultural place whose mission is to gather peoples of every type or origin around strong principles such as ecological thinking, organic and fair farming, energy saving, knowledge and tools sharing, participatory governance.
Auberge des Vergers is the meeting of the other. It is a warm café, a good, local, and sometimes participative cuisine offering quality and responsible products. It is a concert or a show for those who are hungry for stage art. It is cozy guest rooms for a good nap after a too rich meal or amazing day with us.
The Auberge des Vergers is everything we dream of finding down at home or on the move.â
Sustainable practices include:
Organic products
Fair/direct trade products
Biodynamic products
Renewable energy and/or energy conservation: The building has been constructed under strict rules of Minergie Eco label (some of the highest degree of insulation label in Switzerland). The whole building is heated partly by reuse of heat wasted water provided by the industrial area located 2 km from the neighborhood. There are solar panels on the roof to produce green electricity. Energy saving appliances are used primarily and lights are LED powered.
Water conservation: Every room has a shower insted of a bath and guests are encouraged not to change their sheets and towels daily. In the restaurant, water-saving washing machines are used and no bottled water is served as they have a filtration/gasification system that provides both still and sparkling water with better flavor.
Waste reduction management: Menu is small and efficient, plus suggestions are created daily to allow products reuse/transformation/less waste. As neighbours have gardens near the Auberge, most compostable goods are donated there, and for the little food waste left, it goes to a company that uses it to generate bio gas. Takeaways are provided in reusable glass bento boxes and soon bags and coffee cups will be as well so we all can enjoy a world without trash.
Eco-friendly cleaning products: All cleaning products are eco-friendly, using the "Maya collection" at "Steinfels Switzerland". Plus the laundry company (Fondation Pro, focused on social integration), using local eco-friendly washing products from "La Corde Ă Linge."
